The weekly check-in is a short update each person makes on Monday morning. They go through their open climbs one at a time, mark each one on track, off track, or done, and tick the milestones they’ve finished. It takes about five minutes.

On track and off track are the owner’s judgement. On track means they expect to finish the climb by its due date, and off track means they don’t. Done is also the owner’s call, and Headwater allows it once every milestone is ticked or removed.
Behind pace is worked out by Headwater from the milestones. A climb is behind pace when its progress is more than 25 points behind the time gone from the start of its quarter to its due date. Both are shown on the climb, so a climb can be off track without being behind pace, or behind pace while its owner still expects to finish.

When a climb is off track, something is usually in the way. From the check-in, the owner can add a comment to the climb and raise an issue about it. The issue goes on their team’s list with a link to the climb, ready for the next huddle.
The status, the comment, and the issue are saved in the climb’s history, so anyone who opens the climb later can see what happened each week.

Managers see their crew at the top of My Flow. A green ring means the person has checked in this week, and a red dot means one of their climbs is off track.
Each climb keeps the status its owner set at every check-in, so a manager can look back over the quarter one week at a time. Pick a week to see the status, the progress, and any comment left with it.

Supplier prices for the two new blends are late.
A status set in the check-in appears straight away wherever the climb is shown. The Climbs step of the huddle already lists every status, so nobody has to read them out. On the strategy map, the climb’s ring changes colour, and each milestone ticked counts towards its initiative, its pillar, and the whole company.
